Final i815/Solano Mobo Review
5:14
PM EST
Tom's Hardware Guide has
posted a review
of a motherboard based on the final revision of Intel's i815 (Solano)
chipset. Check out this bit:
I would have loved to congratulate Intel for the development of
i815, but the fact that BX133 is still faster in the majority of
benchmarks leaves me unsatisfied. I still don't see any sensible
reason why Solano should not be able to reach BX133-scores or even
outperform its two-year-old predecessor. Solano's 'underperformance'
is raising some serious questions. Was Intel unable to make i815 as
fast as 440BX or did Intel simply not want to make it too fast? I am
sure that we won't ever get an honest answer to this question, so I
leave it up to you to answer this question for yourself.

GeForce2 Overclocking Guide
4:51
PM EST
To go along with the upgrade guide, TweakTown
has posted a GeForce2
overclocking guide so you can squeeze every last bit of performance
from the card. Personally, I think it runs fast enough that it's
not worth the instability that comes with overclocking. What good
is squeezing a few more FPS if you're system lockups up when you're
leading in a game of counter strike?

DTI 3D Virtual Window Review
4:24
PM EST
Evil3D has posted a review
of DTI's 3D Virtual Window monitor. We're supposed to be getting
one of these to try out ourselves, here is a bit about this amazing
piece of equipment:
The excitement over the aesthetic vanished instantly however
once the system was fired up and the first image was presented. I
don't remember for certain but I am reasonably certain that the first
word to fall outta my face was, simply, "WOW". An image of a
model of a human skull was standing in front of the monitor as sure as
my name is KillerG. I exaggerate not. It appeared that the image was
floating in thin air somewhere in between the monitor and my, now very
wide-open, eyeballs. I felt as though I could reach out with both
hands, grab the skull and fling it across the room. Then Arnie,
(Arnold D. Lagergren, DTI's Prez) who was giving us the presentation,
raised his hand up in front of the screen in order to point out a
particular area of the image and it appeared that his finger was
actually going to go right into the eye socket of the skull. More
words like "oh my God" and "holy crap" began to
fall from my lips. I was completely taken aback by the reality of this
illusion. I gotta tell ya, I have been fascinated by illusionists
before but never to this extent. I think the words that Evil used
(once he managed to pry my fascinated ass outta the viewing chair) was
something like, "Man, this is disturbing".
