Creative Labs GeForce 256 Interview  7:18 PM EST  - Email Us
Tech Arena has posted an interview they conducted with Creative Labs VP of Graphics, Steve Mosher.  There is some very interesting talk in this interview, which may or may not be true.  For example, check out this interesting tidbit:

Tech Arena : How does 3DFX's announced delay of the Napalm impact the market?

Steve : 3dfx has stated that they expect Napalm to ship in mid February or mid March. What that means is their chip has not taped out yet. They are probably still working on the backend-- timing  and layout. If the chip works with one metal turn, they get production in February. If they have a full base turn, they are looking at March. The most important thing about the delay is that the market will have changed by mid February. As you know, developers are cranking now on incorporating T&L. We will see a bunch of titles this Christmas, and by Spring, games with tons of polys will be in full bloom. From a marketing perspective I don't know how I would market a card without T&L this spring. Even low end parts will have T&L this spring.

Athlon 600 Is Cheaper than P3 600  7:12 PM EST  - Email Us
Bill over at CPUReview has notified us that he has posted his latest version of the Athlon/Pentium III Price Comparison.  The Athlon 600 is selling for 495 on Pricewatch, while the P3 600 is selling for 589.  That means, the cost of an Athlon 600+motherboard is now cheaper than the cost of an Intel P3 600 + motherboard.  This is great news!

Developers on T&L vs Fill Rate  8:42 AM EST  - Email Us
Voodoo eXtreme is collecting the opinions of many of the respected game developers out there on the Transform & Lighting vs. Fill Rate debate.  This page is being added to all the time, but there are already a significant amount of entries and so far, most developers think T&L is more important than huge fill rates.  Looks like 3dfx is wrong again.

VideoLogic Neon 250 Review  8:30 AM EST  - Email Us

Sharky Extreme has posted a review of the long overdue Neon 250 card from VideoLogic.  They've posted quite of bit of information on the architecture of this card, as well as in-game screenshots and benchmarks comparing it to a TNT2.  Here is what they thought of the card:

If the PowerVR 250 had not experienced any delays, we would all be praising it as the Second Coming of 3D gaming. Imagine this card competing against the TNT, Banshee and Savage3D and you get a pretty good idea of why Videologic was so excited about its potential. In the present however, the Neon 250 has to compete against the likes of the TNT2 and Voodoo3, and while it certainly holds its own, it is definitely not a major step up the performance ladder. What the Neon 250 does prove is that PowerVR technology might still be a force in the 3D market, and it lets NEC PCX2 fans upgrade their PowerVR technology back up to the current level of 3D performance. Whether that's enough for the gamers out there is an open question, but in the very least it should get you very interested in their upcoming PowerVR Series 3 chip.

  Intel Selling OC'd P3 500's as 600's?  8:38 AM EST  - Email Us
According to this article over at the Register, Intel is overclocking their 500MHz Pentium III CPU's, upping the core voltage a bit and selling them as 600's.  Check it out:

Several readers claimed that Intel itself, while corporately standing on a chair screaming its lungs out at the very mention of overclocking, resorts to upping core voltages to achieve reliable performance of the current top-end desktop chip, the PIII 600.

A quick trip to the Chipzilla website revealed that they were indeed speaking the truth.

The latest SL3JT 600MHz P3 shares the same stepping, core stepping and tagRAM stepping as the original SL35E 500MHz chip introduced at the beginning of the year. The only difference is an increase in clock multiplier from 5X to 6X and core voltage from 2.0V to 2.05V.

Abit BE6 Revision 2 Preview  10:54 PM EST  - Email Us
HardOCP has posted their preview of Abit's BE6 revision 2.0 Slot-1 i440BX based motherboard.  So what's new in this board?  Check out this bit:

First and foremost to me is the fact that the board has a new BIOS that is a bit different from the previous ABIT BIOSes we have seen.   There are help screens integrated into the interface that will try to give you some guidance in your use of the BIOS.  I like this feature, it still needs to be tweaked and is not up to ABIT standards quite yet.

Second is the addition of the multiple FSBs.   Jeez.......these guys really went off this time.  Front side bus speeds from 83MHz to 200MHz in integers of "1".  I would say this board will keep you going for a while.

Third, they have ripped one of the ISA slots off.  Hasta la vista!!!!!!!  They could have taken the other one and I would have not cared.

Fourth, since they ripped your ISA slot they have come back in a forgiving nature and awarded us with ATA66 on board.

The AMK-810 has to be the wildest case I've ever seen. First built as a one of a kind test model, it is now being considered for production. If you're looking for the highest performing case money can buy, the AMK-810 may very well be it. The 810 in the name stands for the amount of air this case moves in one minute. 810 cubic feet! With this kind of air movement, I bet it can cool down your room as well as the case.
